Growth initiative in SEEDA region

M Institute is pleased to announce an exciting new initiative targeting medium sized businesses that is being funded by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).

M Institute has been asked by SEEDA to identify the ways in which medium sized companies can benefit from growth and innovation initiatives in their region and across the nation. In addition, the project will help medium sized companies to learn from other successful organisations in their region.

M Institute’s pilot initiative among medium enterprises in the SEEDA region will offer business leaders web content that is strongly business-oriented which will help them deal with the particular challenges that medium enterprises face in the context of delivering on their growth and innovation objectives.

SEEDA’s objective from this initiative is to assist medium enterprises in addressing the constraints and issues they face which prevent them from achieving their growth ambitions. “An active engagement programme with medium sized companies is one of our key goals from this initiative” says Craig Astfalck SEEDA’s Manufacturing and Competitiveness Manager.

“This M Institute initiative will make a significant different to the growth aspirations of medium sized organisations in the South East of England. “says Paul Druckman, chairman of M Institute “The project will connect government support services to medium enterprise in the region and investigate how larger enterprises in a region can gain from working with local medium business to their mutual benefit. It is really exciting to be getting involved in the creation of growth opportunities, thanks to the foresight of SEEDA”

Medium businesses are the powerhouse of the UK economy. Although only 6% of UK companies are in the £10-£250 million revenue bracket, these businesses employ 30% of the British work force, and generate 20% of all corporate profits. Their annualised growth rate is at 8%, which is well above the national growth rate. However, medium size companies are nearly invisible. They have no profile in the market, government pays them no attention, and they are viewed together with small and micro enterprises via the SME label, although they are significantly different from those companies in almost all respects.
